Single Esxi 5.1 U1 host on a Dell Optiplex 755 USFF with Low power disabled in bios and WOL enabled in bios.
Hi all can anyone let me know how to wake my esxi machine via the lan and magic packets. Is there some setting I have to set in the console?
I know when setting up wol on windows I have to go into the network adapter settings and set something there and similarly with linux. But not too sure what to do with the esxi.

Can anyone point me to good documentation on setting up iSCSI port groups for multiple NICs?
We're using 4 interfaces on each host. Does that mean we need 4 IPs (one for each interface)? Or a single port group and IP that you can add all the interfaces to? Just not sure how to set up the vSwitches and port groups.
Also, do all interfaces get used to increase bandwidth or is it a single active connection?

I sat in VCAP5-DCA exam. I wonder if VMware provides marks for partially complete lab activity. Every single lab activity has sub question/ activity. If I complete only 1 out fo 3 activities in a question, will I get marks for that single activity I attempted if it's correct? I will have to wait for 2 weeks now to find out whether I passed or not.

For various reasons, I had to uninstall and now reinstall VMWare Player. The uninstall ran smoothly, however I get an error when trying to reinstall it.
VMWare - Player - 5.0.2 - 1031769

Any ideas?

Hello,
we just switch to 10 Gbit Ethernet. Hosts are connected and we just want to switch the VM´s as well to 10G (vmxnet3). So we installed on a Win7-Testmachine the vmxnet3 Adapter and started the machine.
Connection is ok so far. But after some time, the IP-Connection is lost. So I went to the energy-options of the NIC and disabled "Computer can turn off device to save power".
But also then the connectivity interrupts after some time.
The special thing about this Issue:
When we open the virtual machine console and move the mouse, then the connectivity comes back...
Has anybody expericenced this behaviour before?
Ho un problema con vCenter Server Appliance, quando imposto la mail da dove devono partire gli allert correttamente inserisco admin@miodominio.com ma la macchina vCenter è in join con il dominio, quindi anche se metto admin@miodominio.com verso l'smtp interno aziendale risulta arrivare come root@vcsa-dominio.local quindi il server si rifiuta di inviarlo.
vi chiedo 2 cose:
- è possiibile forzare l'indirizzo con cui esce la mail?
-eventualmente qualcuno conosce la regola corretta per postfix da aggiungere per far passare la mail root@vcsa-dominio.local? o fatto più prove con postfix ma niente da fare.

esxi 5.1, vcenter 5.1. single host, 6 local datastores (12 physical disks configured in 6 raid1 arrays). no central storage. foundation plus license. veeam enterprise in use, backup destination is a NAS storage device.
i have a redhat VM that was configured with multiple partitions pointed to different datastores. the vendor app required REDHAT, SQL, LOGS, APPS partitions to all be on separate physical datastores. we are not using shared storage.
vmname: redhat3
Local datastores:
DS1: DELL0001-- esxi, vcenter
DS2: DELL0203 -- redhat
DS3: DELL0405 -- db
DS4: DELL0607 -- logs
DS5: DELL0809 -- apps
DS6: DELL1011 -- vm templates (plenty of room for all hard disks)
the issue i have is that all VM harddisks have the vm name: ie redhat3.vmdk. I need to move all harddisks to datastore6 (DELL1011) and then reconfigure the DS1-DS5 as 2 raid10 arrays then move the VM hard disks to those 2 datastores. Can i perform a cold VM migration using vcenter without running the risk that the harddisks will be overwritten during the move? if i need to manually create folders called REDHAT, SQL, LOGS, APPS on DS6 and then move the VM hardfdisks into their respective folders can i still use VM cold migration in vcenter or should i use veeam migration or vm converter?. Above is the VM configs showing the 4 vmdk files on the different local datastores. Thanks for any help.
I need to implement a Windiws Server 2008 R2 guest VM acting as a Remote Desktop Server.
At the moment I can't predict how much the VM will be used, including the number of users and the way they will use the VM.
I am considering creating a Windows VM with an arbitrary number of vCPU (let's say 2) and an arbitrary amount of vRAM (let's say, 8 GB).
I know that if I see that the VM gets overloaded (using Microsoft Performance Monitor) I can add more vCPUs and increase vRAM size.
Is there any guideline to change the resources assigned to a VM?
I mean, given that Windows allows adding CPUs and RAM, is it advisable to start with a minimal configuration and to increase it or to start with a larger configuration and recduce it?

Is it possible to create vm templates or convert templates with out virtual center server .

la licenza è vSphere 4 Essentials (1-6 cores)
attualmente le macchina virtuali presenti sono già state migrate su altro nodo.
la mia domanda è:
posso aggiornare il nodo a exsi 5.1 ?
posso continuare a gestirlo dal vSphere?
Eventualmente ho una licenza vsphere 5 per 6 cpu e ne sto usando 4 (2 hosts) e una licenza vCenter per 3 host. Quindi potrei usare la licenza vsphere 5 per gestire l'host exsi 5 ma senza integrarlo nel vCenter?

I passed the vcp410 exam with a 488, It was a little challenging.
Yesterday I started my VMWare Fusion software to load Windows XP and everything came up like normal. My Kaspersky Anti-Virus needed updating, as did Windows. After downloading and installing the necessary updates, Windows needed to restart. After restarting Windows, everything seemed absolutely fine and so I left Windows running while I did some other things on the Mac side of my computer. A short time later, the VMWare Fusion icon at the bottom of my screen began jumping up and down. When I clicked on it, I had the following message, "VMWare Fusion has paused this virtual machine because the disk on which the virtual machine is stored is almost full. To continue, free up at least 962 MB of disk space." There is absolutely no way that my disk space is almost full!! Out of 500 GB, I still have more than 209 GB available. Even though I know my hard drive is not almost full, I did try freeing up at least the amount that the VMWare Fusion message said, but it made no difference. I did find an article on VMWare.com relating to this problem, but I must admit that I'm not sure what the article is telling me to do and I just didn't feel comfortable trying to do something I had no experience doing. I would greatly appreciate anyone that would be willing to help me solve this problem.
Here is some technical information about my computer.
Type of Computer: iMac
OS: Snow Leopard (Mac OS X Version 10.6.8)
HD Size: 500 GB 209.15 GB Available
Use Bootcamp
VMWare Fusion Version 2.0.8

Does anyone have an idea as to when we might see a DSA class for vSphere? I see the new troublshooting class, but I am looking to start on the VCDX path and I know that in 3.5 the DSA class matched pretty well with the Enterprise Admin exam. I know that there is no enterprise admin exam for vSphere yet but you can never start to early.
Yesterday i did my certification on VCP410 with a score of 488 points.
At a Monday morning 10:00 AM with just one cup of Coffee,
a very strange feeling …
But now im happy !
