Error "Create VMFS datastore"

Hi.

Im having trouble adding my HP MSA2000fc storage in VMware.

The LUN has been mapped to LUN101 and i VMware the HBA finds the LUN (Because im troubleshooting im only using 1 cable directly from HBA to MSA controller)

2.jpg

As you can see, the LUN is found.

Then i try and add it as VMFS-5 and get this error

1.jpg

Afterwards i check the patition and it is what it shows:

~ # partedUtil getptbl /vmfs/devices/disks/naa.600c0ff000da0c4b0c85395301000000

unknown

218606 255 63 3511912704

I've also tried mklabel with gpt and get this error.

~ # partedUtil mklabel /vmfs/devices/disks/naa.600c0ff000da0c4b0c85395301000000

gpt

Error: Connection timed out during write on /dev/disks/naa.600c0ff000da0c4b0c85395301000000

WriteNewPtable: Unable to commit to device /vmfs/devices/disks/naa.600c0ff000da0c4b0c85395301000000

msdos works, but im still not able to mount it in VMware

~ # partedUtil mklabel /vmfs/devices/disks/naa.600c0ff000da0c4b0c85395301000000

msdos

~ # partedUtil getptbl /vmfs/devices/disks/naa.600c0ff000da0c4b0c85395301000000

msdos

218606 255 63 3511912704

And some logs!

~ # tail -f /var/log/hostd.log

On the MSA i've done a "restore defaults factory" and afterwards configured it as basic as possible.

LUN 101 read/write. (There is not much to chance in the webinterface).

I've done a 4 disk RAID5 and 12 disk RAID6, just to be sure the disks were wiped.

Any suggestions?

Regards Michael.

vSphere 6.5 VMFS 6 not reclaiming space after snapshot removal

After deleting snapshots or consolidating VMs the datastore does not reclaim data. vCenter version 6.5.0.14100 Build Number 7801515, VMware ESXi 6.5.0, 7388607, VMFS 6. Before removing snapshots and consolidating a VM I had 10.71 TB free on the datastore after the removal I had 9 TB, so during the snapshot removal I have lost over 1 TB of space.  I do have a VMware support ticket open as well but I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this and if so what is the solution. (I have a vSphere 6.0 VMFS 5 environment that does not have this issue.)

Accessing Virtual Machine (linux) via web console or VMRC and then web console freezes. Cannot refresh. Reboot to restore.

Has anybody experienced this (screenshot attached).  It happens on both FF and IE, both connecting directly to ESXi host and V-Center.  It happened on 6.0 and now on 6.7 and also it happens on both VMRC and WebConsole.    I access my VM and do some work and everything is good and then my screen freezes.  I refresh my browser and all I get is the attached screenshot.  I can SSH in and everything is still running. I can't figure out if VMWare tools is stuck or the Gnome display freezes.   Only way to restore is reboot.

My ESX host is running on Cisco UCS C240M.  I have four VMs running.  Issue only hits one of the VMs at a time.   CPU/Processes/Memory are all being used minimally... nothing is spiking when it happens.

esxi 6.5 vmrc remote console GUI language

$

I have an ESXi 6.5 and installed the vmware remote console which I downloaded using the link in the vmware ESXi browser console.

My system is US English windows 7 enterprise but I am located in Germany.

Thus the regional settings of my machine are German currency, date and so on but I do not want any German GUI.

For some reason the VMRC GUI shows all menu items in German and I cannot find a way to change this.

Is there a way to adapt the interface language of the vmrc to English?

Error: VMRC - Failed to initialize SSL session to remote host

Hi,

I have a new macbook pro running High Sierra and i'm unable to use VMRC due to the error: Failed to initialize SSL session to remote host. No problems with webui, just vmrc. ssh is enabled.

My old MBP (running High Sierra also) is still working fine with VMRC to the same hosts (hosts are running 5.5 with the latest 1.29 Web UI)

Both MBPs are on the same network, using the same dns (which has been suggested in other articles might be an issue with the dns resolution).

Does anyone have any ideas what's missing on the new MBP preventing VMRC from initializing?

Thanks.

Group level roles not propagating to user

We are implementing RBAC in our plugin where,

I am having a user group with an admin role assigned to it in my vCenter.

I have added a user to this user-group, however, the admin role is not getting propagated to the user, instead,

it requires to assign the admin role to this user individually in order to reflect the admin role.

Query:-

Does this behavior is expected or am I missing any step here in between.?

web client login very slow ESXi 6.5

I have a few esxi servers distributed around the country. The hardware is all HPe Gen 10 DL 380 and ML350 with lots of CPU and RAM

When the systems are built at head off on the local lan the web client login is almost instantaneous but once we deploy them out to site they are VERY slow

Definition of slow:

put IP into browser, it complains the cert is unsafe, continue, the screens goes blue, login appears

Times between going blue and login:

Windows 10

Explorer 11: 30min to 60min

Opera: 5-10 min

Chrome: 30 min

Firefox 5-10 min

Centos 6

Firefox 5-10min

The connections are all about 1Mb/s and have worked perfectly for years with the fat clients.

I have looked at the DNS and that seems ok.

Licenses are mostly Essentials but I tried a Free one and also a "eval" and it is the same with all of them.

There is obviously something I am missing but I have to solve this before the mass upgrade of all of the 5.5s

I have a windows 2012 with vCenter Server installed with a external MSSQL-server.

When I was trying to upgrade to 6.5u1 I got error 1603, I've been trying with this solution Vsphere 6.5 U1 update on Windows fails but it doesnt work for me. So I uninstalled vSphere but when I try to install u1 I get the same error. Before I get the 1603 error I also get "Failed to write to file c:\programdata\vmware\vcenterserver\cfg\sca\services\rhttpproxy.properties Exeption: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'c:\\programdata\\vmware\\vcenterserver\\cfg\\sca\\services\\rhttpproxy.properties. I receive the following error when trying to start a p2v conversion on the powered-on machine that is being converted and saving to network share. Error happens immediately after wizard closes.

The converter software is able to get to the share and write, as I tested it by saving the log files from the converter to the share so it does not appear to be a rights issue.

hi,

i had my uem created without office template config file,

so every time a users log into instant clone he had to create the outlook profile again.

create office config profile solved that.

but the question is why outlook needed a config profile from uem so it can save in appdata (appdata is redirected)

and do i need a config file for every third party app so it can save in appdata  ? or it will save in appdata without the need of config file.

another question is :

when outlook 2010 ost is redirected, does it use appdata any more ?

thanks in advance.

clients' host use different ESXi version?

is it compliant for the test result's publication if the client hosts using different ESXi version from the SUT's?

e.g. running test with clients' hosts using ESXi 6.5 U1, build 5969303 while SUT using ESXi version 6.5 U1g, build 7967591

or the prerequisite of the compliant vmmark test is using consistent ESXi version on every hosts?

仮想ディスクは、ホストOS Windows7上のVMware player 3.x より稼動していたものを、vCenter Converter にて、Workstation 11 用にコンバートし

VLAN issue with additional NIC for ESXI guest

$

Hi all,

I have an ESXI host with one physical NIC which is attached a a vSwitch with 4 port groups, 1 which is native the other 3 are VLAN tagged.

One guest has 4 NICs configured fom the port groups above (minus 1 ) and another from a 2nd vSwitch (no phtsical NIC). It is currently working as expected. However, when I add an additional NIC from a VLAN tagged port group to the guest, it is as if the VLAN associated with those port groups are swapped or random.

The indication of this is:

- The DHCP issued address for one NIC is from a network connected to another NIC

- A series of ARP errors on the guest

If I remove the added NIC, the issue is rolled back.

Hello,

since a time we have poor performance with our Win10 Guest . The Guest are on 1803. Our Exsi Host are on 6.5 (8935087). The Datastore is a Freenas ISCSI with Raid 10.

The latency and I/Ops are very poor. When u click it passed 2-3 seconds before become a answer. We have also Gust on local Storage (ssd) and there are fine. I read that many people have Problems with poor Performance ,but the u2 update (what we have) fixed it. What can i look to fix this Problem?

Adding the host which includes vcenter on itself to the vcenter

$

Hi,

3 Hosts, ESXi 6.7 and VCSA 6.7.

VCSA itself is installed on Host 1.

I added hosts 2 & 3 to vCenter. No problem. But while adding the Host 1 which I said contains the vcenter itself I face this error : A general runtime error occurred.

I guess this is because vcenter is there itself. Am I right or I should look for other issues?

And if I'm right how should I fix this? Turning of vcentervm, move it to a shared storage, go to other hosts and add it manually to inventory and ....

Thanks
