SRM unable to configure VM protection

Hello,

In one of my protection group, there is a VM in not configured state. I tried to configure it but it pops out an error message saying the connection to the remote server is down cause operation timed out 300 second.

Any idea how to resolve this? I've attached the screenshot of error message.

Thank you

Datastore Recovery

Is it possible to recover deleted datastores?

I made the mistake of attempting to copy datastores to different locations and deleted the original(s). The copies showed successful but they weren't...I've been able to successfully use file recovery with Linux, however, it would be great if I could mount the datastores and copy the vmdk files.

Does anyone have any ideas I can try?

full screen stretch guest (scaling) half-success in WS Player

VMware Workstation 15 Player

Windows 10 host 1920X1080, Windows 98 SE Korean guest 1024X768

I added this line in preferences.ini

pref.autoFitFullScreen = "fitHostToGuest"

then at full screen mode I got upscaling. But like this

stretched guest.png

What could I try to correct this?

Is this VMware's intention? Or is it possible by tweaking preferences.ini, vmx file or config.ini?

Any helps appreciated.

added. Korean 103/106 keyboard not supported. can't change English to Korean (or vice versa). 14 Player with VMware tools an year ago didn't show this problem.

added. guest 640X480 full screen mode display

640.png

svga.maxWidth = "1024"     svga.maxHeight = "768"     svga.vramSize = "3145728"

changing these options in windows 98.vmx has no effect, have nothing with my problem.

pref.autoFit, pref.autoFitGuestToWindow lines in preferences.ini are not full screen option.

I guess full screen display field is forced to always follow guest resolution, so if I can fix that vmplayer full screen display field resolution to 1920X1080 (host resolution), this will be solved. but I don't know how.

This is all about vmplayer full screen mode configuration, not guest, I guess.

If this parameter is hidden hard (because of Pro version), I will quit and give up answer. So I want to know VMware's stance.

Or I hope someday they sell less expensive Workstation version with scaling function. Pro's too expensive to buy, just for 90s gaming nostalgia.

I know line pref.vmplayer.fullscreen.nobar = "TRUE"  , so this scaling problem is only left to use Player comfortably.

added. this message was in Workstation Pro group board 3 days. I didn't know this Player group board. It's my mistake.

I hope any response related. For 3 days there was none.

Configuration file has unexpected changes - ESXi 6.5 kills virtual machine and cannot be powered on

Hello

Just installed a fresh HP DL380 Gen10 with VMware ESXi 6.5 (6.5.0 Update 2 (Build 8294253) from HPE-ESXi-6.5.0-Update2-iso-Gen9plus-650.U2.10.3.0.24 (Hewlett Packard Enterprise)). Installed a Windows Server 2016 Standard virtual machine, but ESXi kills the VM after running for about 5 minutes. After ESXi killed the VM, I can't power it on anymore.

This appears in the event log of the virtual machine:

Issue detected for vm1-server2016 on esxi1 in ha-datacenter: Configuration file has unexpected changes. Virtual machine has been terminated. Unregister and re-register virtual machine if the configuration file is correct.

I have tried unregistering and re-registering but ESXi keeps doing the same...

Thanks,

Starting VM in multihead system from any of the heads

Hi everyone,

This question may be trivial, but as a new user to vmware, I have no clue about it.

The point is the following: we have 4 PCs at home, and instead of renewing all of them, I would like to build a multihead system running ESXI in order to vitualize 4 vms, one for each PC we actually have. Each vm will have a head consisting of a dedicated monitor (with GPU passthrough) and USB hub (for connecting mouse and keyboard), and each head will be in a different room. And because of this, it is a requirement that I can start a vm from the heads; this is, with just the keyboard and mouse.

My concern is: is it possible to do that, or do I need to interact with the server through vmware Sphere client -or something alike- if I want to power up a vm?

As I said, I have no experience with ESXI. I do plan on installing it in a spare computer and trying everything I've mentioned, but I haven't done it yet. So any help would be much appreciated.

Best regards

I Had to change HDDs to SATA to upgrade Server 2012R2 to 2019

I'm using ESXi 6.7 free and am running several Server 2012R2 VMs (VM version 14).  I wanted to "in place" upgrade to 2019 but it kept hanging (Hard lockup) after the initial reboot.

Every time it failed, it would hang on the reboot (windows logo screen with spinning dots). I could not power off the VM.  I would even try to esxcli vm process -kill the world id and it would disappear from the process list but it would still never go down.  I had to end up rebooting the ESXi host (shutting down all my VMs) every time it failed, a more than 15 minute experience each time.

Each time after I booted up the VM again, it show a setup failed message with a generic error code that searching the internet for turned up "it could be anything" type of posts.

After days of trying different things, as in uninstalling drivers, VM Tools, stopping start-up services from running, trying different versions of the 2019 install media, etc, as a last resort I went down the list of controllers on my hard drives.  First going from LSI SAS to paravirtual, and then to SATA.  Once I changed the hard drives to SATA and uninstalled the other SCSI controllers the upgrade process finished fine.

Just an FYI if anyone else runs into this.

Should I change my hard drives back to paravirtual SCSI controllers or just leave them on SATA?

Edit: I forgot to mention that I am running DellEMC-ESXi-6.7.0-8169922 specific image of ESXi.

vRA's 7.5, vSphere initial Setup fails on "Setup tenant administrator"

$

Background: We're looking to migrate from Foreman+vSphere to vRA+vSphere. I've taken the vRA install and config and the vRO course.

Test lab is a clean install of vSphere Client version 6.7.0.30000, VMware ESXi, 6.7.0, 8169922 and vRA 7.5.

After initial install I've attempted to run the vSphere Initial setup within vRA catalog and ran into some problems. I found that vSphere 6.5 systems needs to have the vCenter plugin updated (vRO vCenter plug-in  for vSphere 6.5 service releases ) which I did. After that it did progress further but now I am seeing the following error. I'm hoping someone with more experience might have some insight as to what might be the cause because my google-fu isn't turning anything up.

connecting to lan kills wifi

I'm trying to connect to local wifi for internet access and at the same time connect hardwired to local area network that does not have internet access.

I am able to connect to the devices over the lan in windows.

The LAN connects me to some audio matrix devices. I am using a windows programs on the windows side to configure those devices.

The devices I am trying to connect to on the windows side have the following IP address: 192.168.199.x.

The default gateway address is: 192.168.199.1

When i do an ipconfig in windows console, I show 192.168.199.100

However, when the network cable is plugged into my mac, I am unable to get internet access via wifi on the mac side.

As soon as I unplug the network cable, Internet access comes back.

I need to have simultaneous wifi connectivity and LAN connectivity in order to work on this equipment.

I have been able to do this in the past. Not sure why I can't make it work now.

Sorry is this explanation is a little confusing. I hope this is enough information.

That you in advance for your help.

Instant clones, uem, and app volumes

Hi everyone, we are getting ready to deploy instant clones, UEM, and app volumes. We are a k12 environment. Each classroom has different application needs for their desktops. The students visit multiple classrooms a day. I recently realized that app volumes is configured by AD group membership. Is this also how UEM works? I plan on creating app stacks in app volumes for the apps that everyone needs, but not all students need the same applications and some need various ones depending on which class they are in. It's best designed by applying the specific applications and shortcuts to the desktop pool, rather than AD group memberships. Can UEM achieve this? I need to find a solution to allow each classroom (desktop pool) it's own specific applications and shortcuts.

Any advice is appreciated!

vMotion from ESXi6.7u1 to ESXi6.5u1

$

Hello there.

I've faced the problem during the vm vMotion from ESXi6.7u1 (10302608) to ESXi 6.5u1 (7388607):

The target host does not support the virtual machine's current hardware requirements.

Use a cluster with Enhanced vMotion Compatibility (EVC) enabled to create a uniform set of CPU features across the cluster, or use per-VM EVC for a consistent set of CPU features for a virtual machine and allow the virtual machine to be moved to a host capable of supporting that set of CPU features. See KB article 1003212 for cluster EVC information.

com.vmware.vim.vmfeature.cpuid.ibpb

com.vmware.vim.vmfeature.cpuid.ibrs

com.vmware.vim.vmfeature.cpuid.ssbd

com.vmware.vim.vmfeature.cpuid.fcmd

com.vmware.vim.vmfeature.cpuid.stibp

Both hosts are equipped by the same CPUs - E5-2658v4.

It seems that EXi6.7u1 abuse some CPU instructions which are not used by ESXi6.5u1, and this problem VM was powered off and on on ESXi6.7u1, so it got some new instructions (I assume so).

However I couldn't find any info about diffrenece between used CPU instructions in ESXi6.7u1 and ESX6.5u1.

I guess, there is no way to move this VM in powered on state, am I right?

Executing powershell through VRO yields different results vs running powershell directly

Hello!

I'm trying to run a powershell script that deletes an entry upon VM disposing. The script runs fine when I run it directly, using the same username/password as what is setup in VRO PSHost:

PS C:\Users\rpcvpshost> D:\steve\remove-dns.ps1 serverName1.as 10.0.0.1 89.10.in-addr.arpa

DNSName is: serverName1.as

DNSServer is: 10.0.0.1

Check for existing DNS record(s) of serverName1.as

Using Get-DnsServerResourceRecord -ZoneName redactedname.com -ComputerName 10.0.0.1 -Node serverName1.as -RRType A -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue

An A-record found to be: DnsServerResourceRecord

IPAddress is: 10.89.28.50

Querying with Get-DnsServerResourceRecord -ZoneName 0.10.in-addr.arpa -ComputerName 10.0.0.1 -Node 50.28 -RRType Ptr -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue

Value of NodePTRRecord is: DnsServerResourceRecord

Remove-DnsServerResourceRecord -ZoneName 0.10.in-addr.arpa -ComputerName 10.0.0.1 -RRtype

PTR -Node 50.28 -RecordData serverName1.as.redactedname.com.  -Force

PTR gone: 50.28

A-record has been removed: serverName1.as

But when I kick-off the same powershell script, I get the following error. I don't believe it's a network issue or permission issue, because I can run the script directly on the PSHost server, with same user/pass, and it works. ** Note, ignore if the IPs don't 100% matchup in the errors pasted here... I just did a quick search-replace so I'm not putting too much personal server information on the web :-)

Problem with new installation of v.11

To eliminate a malware threat I recently built up a brand new system of Mohave taking the time to reinstall my apps from fresh downloads and dragged important files and folders by hand from my backup. My final piece is to get Fusion working again. So I just upgraded to v.11, downloaded the disk image and installed. I had dragged my working Window's 10 virtual machine in ~/Documents/Virtual Machines. The virtual machine seems to be recognized but trying to launch fusion yields two alerts followed by nothing. i've attached two little screen shots. Any suggestions how to solve this? Thanks!

I signed up for the free trial of Horizon to play with it in my lab, and I'm trying to get the UAG installed, but the recommended method is to use a powershell script that doesn't appear to be available to download as part of the trial. Is this an oversight, or am I just screwed and going to have to do it the manual way?

Hello,

When I view my Windows 10 VM from the Fusion menu app, it shows the status is 'Unknown (Off)'. However, I know that the VM is on, because I am using it. Here is a screenshot showing what I mean.

This is not causing any problems, but it would be nice to get it to show the correct status. Thank you!

Good afternoon,

I am looking for some input on disabling the following two SSH Protocols.  What would be the Negatives to doing such?  They were installed normally and have not been locked down heavily as yet.  Basically curious as to what would happen if these two Protocols are disabled.
