Unable to protect vm in my newly created HBR protection group. As after association vms to protection group when i am going to protect vm with ProtectionGroup.VmProtectionSpec object it says Required property vm is missing from data object of type SrmProt

To Create Protection group i am Using SRM APIs 8.1

 

steps that i followed:

1. created HBR protection group using root folder location and available replicated vms

 

2. Associated vms with newly created vms

 

3. created Managed Object of ArrayOfSrmProtectionGroupVmProtectionSpec

 

4. created Managed Object of SrmProtectionGroupVmProtectionSpec and assigned my vm object to its vm attribute

 

5. appended new SrmProtectionGroupVmProtectionSpec to ArrayOfSrmProtectionGroupVmProtectionSpec's SrmProtectionGroupVmProtectionSpec list

 

6. called ProtectVms with created ArrayOfSrmProtectionGroupVmProtectionSpec object

Microsoft's Aggressive EOL Timeline and Horizon Full Clone Issues

We have been using Horizon for 150 users with full clones for a few years now but we are starting to second guess this decision in light of Microsoft's aggressive end of life cycle for Windows 10.

 

Our users require the use of full clones. To meet common security practices, we have to ensure our VM's have the latest security updates so we cannot ignore the EOL for Windows 10 and let them no longer receive updates.

 

We have been using Pro licenses and we have 1809 VM's being deployed to new users currently. The majority of our users still have 1803 so they will have to change by this November. The pro license of 1809 will be obsolete in May 2020 so their EOL in short as well. Our users are not going to be happy with us giving them new machines regularly and having them re-install their programs every 6 months or less. We are looking into changing the licenses on our 1803 and 1809 machines to Enterprise instead of Pro which will delay this concern out until November 2020 and May 2021 thus give us some breathing room. It looks like this could be done by just updating the license number, so they will be able to keep their current VM and be oblivious to the change.

 

NOTE: We attempted to try in-place upgrading for 1803 to 1809 but we are running into random VM freezing so it looks like fresh OS builds are our only reliable option.

 

The problem I am now looking at is build 1903 is setup to expire in December of 2020. THIS IS NUTS!!! Is Microsoft no longer allowing Enterprise licenses more time? VMware doesn't even have support for 1903 yet and nobody I have talked to has a clue as to when they will. Even if we get support for 1903 by the end of the year, this leaves us less than a year for our users to use it before they have to get a new machine and we start all over again. In all practicality, our users would be needing to get new machines and re-install everything every 6 months (based on delays for VMware to support the latest OS and getting everyone changed).

 

Is anyone else out there using full clones and come up with a reasonable way to work through these issues?

Create Shortcut in Favorites

Hi,

 

I am stuck with a problem here. I am trying to figure how I can create a shortcut in C:\Users\%username%\Favorites and undo at log off

 

I do not want to use Files and Folders option since it doesn't have a undo at logoff option.

 

Any ideas?

Start Menu Windows 10 1803

Hi,

 

I am having some difficulties getting UEM to personalize Windows 1803 start menu. I have a custom layout. First time login, the layout is set properly for all users. Any subsequent logins the start menu layout is missing apps. It is the same exact apps. Removing UEM and the layout works fine. It is the organization custom layout; therefore, I must deploy it. Anyone had any luck with 1803 and higher.

Workstation 15 on Linux vmware tools

Hi All,
I'm running in to an issue that I can't figure out.  Fresh install of Pop-OS and downloaded Workstation Pro 15, installed a Windows 7 client, and Workstation Pro errors out when trying to download the vmware tools ISO.  Has anyone ran in to this before?

Fault Tolerance: The virtual NIC associated with the host has insufficient bandwidth for vSphere Fault Tolerance logging

My ESXi Servers version 6.7 always have the warning: "The virtual NIC associated with the host has insufficient bandwidth for vSphere Fault Tolerance logging" when i try to enable fault tolerance on a VM. And the secondary VM always fails. Any idea's on what that warning means?

No PXE Boot from VM with EFI. Using Microsoft WDS

Hello,

 

I have the problem, that I am not able to get a VM on our ESXi 6.0.0 to boot over PXE from our WDS if I choose EFI as start option. If I choose BIOS instead, everything works fine.

 

When I use EFI I get this screen when starting up:

After that I am presented the Boot Manager and can select EFI Network manualy, then I get the following screen. Nothing happens there. After a few seconds I get back to the Boot Manager where I can select another boot media.

Unfortunately I dont have access to our WDS-Server to view any log, but I will ask for this if I cant solve the problem otherwise. If you need any more information feel free to ask.

Can't connect to vsphere web client with "503 Service Unavailable" error

Hello everyone,

 

I have vsphere 6.5 run on HP DL380 G10, everything is ok in the first 1 month.

 

At Wednesday I can't access vsphere web client with "request time out" error after click on "Login" button, i try to restart management agent services with command "services.sh restart" and after that i got error "503 Service Unavailable (Failed to connect to endpoint: [N7Vmacore4Http16LocalServiceSpecE:0x01bc5f78] _serverNamespace = / action = Allow _port = 8309)".

 

VMs in host still runing and accessable, I has been try "esxcli" and got error "Connection failed".

 

Anyones have idea for this error?, pls help me.

Keyboard and Mouse not working in neither Remote Console nor Web Console from vCenter 6.7U2 for one specific VM.

Vmware Tools1.PNGHello.

 

Keyboard and Mouse works when using a Remote Desktop Connection but not through Remote Console nor Web Console .

 

The VM is a Windows 2012 R2 server.

 

In Computer Management I see Remote Desktop Keyboard Device and Remote Desktop Mouse Device. Both Ok.

 

I also see one VMware Pointing Device with a yellow exclamation point and Status 10 (This device cannot start. (Code 10) Insufficient system resources exist to complete the API.) (plugged into PS/2 mouse port)

 

Under Other devices I see an Unknown device a yellow exclamation point and Status 28) (The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28) There are no compatible drivers for this device.To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver) That is probably the keyboard.

 

I have tried all sorts of stuff including adding a USB in the VMs configuration.

 

How do I get the mouse and keyboard to work on that VM?

repetitive events - USB configuration has changed on host

Hello,

I receive this message every second in the event log: USB configuration has changed on host.
I unplugged all usb devices on my hosts but that does not solve my problem.
I have 3 hosts in my cluster.at first, the event was associated with the host 2. "USB configuration has changed on esx2".I put it in maintenance mode and this time I had the same message but it was associated with the host 3: USB configuration has changed on esx3.

Do you have an idea of where this problem comes from?this can be caused by a vm trying to use the usb port of the host on which it is rolling.

Master VM High Booting Time

Hi,

 

I have implemented VDI using Horizon. I am using ESXi 6.7 U2,Horizon Connection 7.8, Agent 7.8, VMware Tools 10.3.5 and as a master image Windows 10 version 1903.

 

I am facing a high booting time of master image VM, also the Virtual Desktops. I haven't used any VMware OS Optimization Tool until now.

 

Any suggestion what to do about this issue?

Screen resolution issue with macOS 10.14 (Mojave) guest on macOS 10.14 (Mojave) host - Fusion 11

If so, how do I make the guest understand that I'm running with the display capabilities of a MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016)?

SMTP blocked on VM

Hi,

 

I am trying to connect a spam appliance in a DMZ to a Server 2012 R2 VM (vsphere 6.7). I can ping the IP and I turned off the Windows firewall but SMTP is being blocked somewhere does anyone have thoughts on what the issue could be?

How to find VMkernel ports of a Distributed Virtual PortGroup

I could not find any property related to the VMkernel ports of a DV Portgroup.  I am able to list protgroup and config property, which gives most of the things I need, but I could not find anything on  how to check if a Portgroup has any Kernel ports and how to list them.

Linking existing stand alone vCenter 6.7 appliances with embedded PSCs

I have 2 linked vcenters and 1 not linked.

 

I can't seem to find the process of linking the individual VC to the other VCs aside from during VC installation/deploymnet.

 

Surely there must be a simple way to do this?

 

Perhaps use the opposite of the old unregister command?

 

cmsso-util register --node-pnid Platform_Services_Controller_System_Name --username administrator@your_domain_name --passwdvCenter_Single_Sign_On_password

 

I was hoping to find a KB article but no luck.

 

Can someone please point me in the right direction.

Vpxd failed to start

Have you encountered vcsa can not access through the browser, vpxd can not start?

ELX_bootbank_elx-esx-libelxima.so conflict between patch baseline and HP custom ISO.

In esxupdate.log when checking compliance in VUM:

ValueError: VIBs ELX_bootbank_elx-esx-libelxima.so_12.0.1108.0-03 and ELX_bootbank_elx-esx-libelxima.so_12.0.1108.0-03 have unequal values of the 'payloads' attribute: '[elx-esx-libelxi: 1602.936 KB]' != '[elx-esx-libelxi: 1493.833 KB]

 

This is from a host that was installed with the 6.7U2 HPE Custom ISO then patched with the "critical" VUM baseline.  It seems the baseline installs a conflicting vib which breaks VUM compliance checks from that point forward.

 

If I remove the vib with esxcli software vib remove -n elx-esx-libelxima.so, it allows VUM compliance scanning to resume but then the host reports as non-compliant against the critical patch baseline.

 

Is there a definitive fix for this?  Can I somehow blacklist this vib within VUM?  We don't even need it -- we don't have this hardware!
