Mouse not fuctioning in guest OS with via vSphere on 4k monitor and firepro v7900

Using vSphere Client and ESXi 5.5. I have been searching for anything like this and have not seen anyone else with this problem.

When I open a vSphere console for any OS win7, win8, server8 or 12 I can not use the mouse to click on or select anything.  As I move the mouse within guest OS it changes from a hand pointer to an arrow pointer back to a hand pointer rapidly.  VMware tools is installed in all OS's.  Some times as I move the mouse the numlock light on the keyboard will flash on and off rapidly.

Tried ESXi 5.5 on a Dell Poweredge 2850 III and a Dell T3500 with the same issue.

The mouse does work in full screen and on any other computer that I access guest OS from.

The only big difference between this computer a dell t5500 and any other workstation I use to access esxi is that it has a 4k Seiki Monitor and firepro v7900.  Resolution is set at 3840x2160 30hz.  Even though I knew it would not help I have tried a different mouse and keyboard.  No hub or kvm. When I moved resolution down to 1920x1080 I get the same results with mouse reacting to movement but no clicking on anything within guest OS.  Just uninstalled and reinstalled vSphere with same results. I'm not sure what to try next and am hoping someone has an idea of what is going on here.

Thanks

Accessing Horzion Workspace Using Public IP

Hi everybody,

I was wondering, is it possible to simply attach another NIC to  gateway-va, assign it a public IP  and directly access Horizon Workspace using this IP?

I'm able to do the same for the View Connection Server, and I don't really want to have to setup a load balancer as I have no need for load balancing.

Is there a simpler way to allow access to Horizon Workspace through a public IP?

Thanks in advance.

Unable to remove application from protecting by vCenter Server Heartbeat

Hi VMware exparts,

I'm facing odd problem with vCenter Server Heartbeat (vCSHB).

I'm trying to unprotect windows task scheduler for a certain reason. When I try to remove it from protected application list, it actually disappear from the list, seemingly was removed but I'm not able to change "Start up type", which is same situation when the service is protected by vCSHB.

I guess it may because of protection status handling fault of vCSHB...

Does anybody have same experience?

unmonitor Task Scheduler Service

Hi All,

I'm using vCenter5.1 and vCSHB6.5.

vCenter and MS SQL are the same server which is virtual machine.

I'm planning to run some scripts on each primary and secondary servers by using task scheduler.

However secondary VC is not able to run task scheduler service, because task scheduler service is monitored by vCSHB.

When I removed task scheduler from monitoring service of vCSHB, it's possible to run task scheduler service on secondary VC.

However, the task scheduler service was stopped and added monitoring service of vCSHB again, after a while.

How do I setting that task scheduler service is not monitored by vCSHB?

Best regards,

Ash

Hi All,

We had a massive power surge and power cut yesterday.  Everything is working except my USB Drive, directly connected to the server.  Because of the downtime yesterday, I don't want to reset the machine to see if I could then see it.  Are there any commands to reset the USB on 5.5 Esxi?

TIA

Windows 8 host, Workstation 9 guest drag and drop

Hi everyone,

I am having an issue that I hope someone can help me with.

I have a host PC that is running Windows 8 Enterprise. I have VMware Workstation 9 installed on this host (version 9.0.2 build 131769). I also have several virtual machines (Windows 7) that run VMware Tools version 9.2.3 build 1031360.

On the Windows 8 host, if I turn off UAC completely, all drag and drop operations work fine from guest to host and host to guest. However, this is not secure, nor is it best practice. Therefore I run UAC at level 2, “notify me only when programs try to make changes to my computer (do not dim my desktop)/don’t notify me when I make changes to Windows settings.”

Under this UAC scenario, here is what happens:

  • If I don’t run Workstation 9 as an administrator, I can drag and drop from host to guest just fine. I cannot drag and drop from guest to host (I get a “no” icon at each border between VM and host).
  • If I run Workstation 9 as an administrator, I can drag and drop from guest to host just fine. I cannot drag and drop from host to the guest (I get a “no” icon when dragging and dropping into the VM).

A short recap:

  • Win 8 host UAC at level 2:
  • Running Wks. 9 as a non admin – host to guest works; guest to host does not.
  • Running Wks. 9 as an admin – guest to host works; host to guest does not.

Please, does anyone know how to make drag and drop work among hosts and guests with UAC enabled on the host? Thanks in advance for your time; your help is greatly appreciated!

STOP auto refresh in tasks screen

I've recently installed my first VDP appliance (5.5.6) on vCenter 5.5U1 and set up a backup job for about 35 virtual servers.  When I run the job several tasks are created and viewable under the Tasks pane in the vSphere Web Client.  The Backup/Restore VM tasks are of interest to me since they show the progress of each backup job.  As I scroll through the pane looking at the tasks the screen refreshes and sends me back to the first line.  I understand a lot of people wanted auto refresh in the Web Client but this is making a frustrating experience.  Any way to turn it off so I can get through the pane and get the information that I need?  I think I recall the thick client having a drop down menu at the top with some way to turn it off.  Please help.

Thanks, Shane

PowerCLI 5.5 Release 2 - change to API - VMware.Vim.dll - VimClient changed from class to Interface

$

We have a vSphere plugin for the legacy C# vSphere Client that utilizes PowerCLI.  Our plugin was updated for the vSphere 5.5 release to utilize PowerCLI 5.5 (VMware-PowerCLI-5.5.0-1295336) .  This coincided with the VMware's 5.5 release.  Since that time, PowerCLI 5.5 Release 2 (VMware-PowerCLI-5.5.0-1671586) was released on 3/11/2014.  If our plugin is installed on a legacy C# vSphere Client that has PowerCLI Release 2 installed, vSphere disables our plugin.  The pertinent info from the failure trace shows that the constructor for VMware.Vim.VimClient is missing:

System.MissingMethodException: Method not found: 'Void VMware.Vim.VimClient..ctor()'.

Visual Studio's object browser (see attachment for screen shots) shows the API for VMware.Vim.dll changed.  VimClient was changed from a class to an Interface in PowerCLI 5.5 Release 2.  Thus, there is no longer a constructor - resulting in the MissingMethodException.

Note: Examples in PowerCLI User’s Guide for the 5.5 Release 2 still show instantiating VimClient (i.e., VimClient client = new VimClient();)  Also, there was no mention of this API change in the release notes.

It seems that something like this should not have changed in the API because it breaks backwards compatibility.  It especially seems like it should not have changed on a point release (I.E., both versions are some form of 5.5).  Our installer does check that PowerCLI 5.5 is installed.  By convention, it seems like we should not have to check the individual point release of the PowerCLI 5.5 version.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?  If so, do you have a resolution that supported the original PowerCLI 5.5 release and the PowerCLI 5.5 Release 2 versions?

Hello All,

Are there any ways to register manually installed agents via some sort of CLI, instead of the web interface? Or such functionality ain't supported?

vSphere Replication failback licensing requirements?

$

I am using a Protected and Recovery site.   25 VMs are being replicated.   Linked-Mode is not being used.

If I failover a VM from site Protected to Recovery and eventually want to fail it back to Protected,  do I need an SRM license for the failback replication on the recovery SRM server or is there a grace period since this is not a true active-active config,  but rather a failback.

Hi,

In my lab I am using three nested ESXI 5.5 u1 and I upgraded vcenter from 5.5 to 5.5 u1  as well, Followed Duncan Epping (YB) steps. I could not see any eligible disks. Is it something with the licenses?

Kindly see the attached screenshot.

Thanks

VMware Workstation registry keys cannot be deleted (on host)

Lenovo ThinkPad

Windows 7 64-bit

Core i7 Quad-Core, 16 GB RAM

240 GB Samsung 840-pro SSD

Installed VMware Workstation 10 as a trial today.  Started it up, selected "I want to try VMware Workstation 10 for 30 days", entered my email, and clicked 'continue.

Got this:

To keep a long story short, I have the following registry key that can't be deleted, and won't retain any permissions I set:  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\VMware, Inc.\Installer\VMware Workstation\Features

When I try to edit the permissions, I get this:

I've tried everything I can think of... I've run several registry editors (as an administrator), I've taken ownership of the key and sub-keys, I've removed the security inheritance and explicitly replaced the owner and permissions on the key and its children... everything works fine, but I still can't delete, and when I re-open the permissions dialog, I'm back to "No permissions have been assigned to this object".  I've disabled all services and startup processes that might be locking the key; nada.

Went into the installer and chose "repair" - got the ever-so-helpful reply "instead of repair re-run the installer" (why give me a button ifnevermind).  Chose uninstall - got this:

Yay.  Now not only am I unable to run the trial, I have a corrupted registry that I can't clean.  Anyone have suggestions?

Can I use many domains in a horizon view server ?

$

0

For example, I have a horizon view server and three AD servers that have each domain such as A.com, B.com, C.com in in a vCenter Server.

I'd like to use all of the domains(A.com, B.com, C.com) in a horizon view server because I just have public IP address.

But as you know, horizon view server can access only one domain.

I heard that one horizon view server can controll many domains in a horizon view server that have one IP.

How can I controll ?

For more information is below.

vCenter Server IP            192.168.1.1

A.com AD Server IP        192.168.1.2

B.com AD Server IP        10.20.30.1

C.com AD Server IP        200.15.1.1

Horizon View Server IP   192.168.1.5

I'd like to controll all of domains only in 192.168.1.5(Horizon View Server)

Please give me a good answer for me

Error when loading license library?

$

Hi guru,

I received an error when I provided a valid license to view connection server.

In the "Edit license" window, I input a valid license, but got an error message saying "Error when loading license library". (The original error message is in Chinese and I translated it to English so I'm not sure the words are exactly the same as in English version.)

It looks something wrong before the connection server verify the licesen. If the license is really invalid, the error message should be like "The license is invalid" instead of "Error when loading license library". I got the "invalid license" error before but never met the "loading error" message.

Any suggestion? Thanks!

The view version is 5.2
